The AVR DB series of microcontrollers have been steadily growing in popularity since their launch a few years ago. They are powerful, integrating the new Event System and more advanced digital and analog peripherals while still maintaining the low-power and high-efficiency processing the AVR core is known for. This nano-sized development board has everything needed to immediately start prototyping with these impressive little chips!
The developer ArduinoShop.ca ships these boards with the Optiboot Arduino bootloader pre-installed. This makes quick prototyping and programming easy by using a standard USB to serial board. However, if you want to use avr-gcc or MPLAB for development you will need a separate UPDI programmer.
The included AVR128DB28 packs a lot of power in a small DIP package, including 128KB of flash and 16KB of SRAM. It has been overclocked up to 48MHz successfully with an external crystal. It even has a built-in 10-bit DAC, which is a very nice feature for a processor at this price point!
So if you want to get experience with this line of microcontrollers, this is a great development board to embed into your next project!
